Myth v Fact on Travel Agents

Myth vs Fact: Misconceptions Around Using a Travel Agent

Here's my personal myth vs fact take on booking with a personal agent. I used to book all my own trips, so I totally get the common misconceptions. Now, as an independent travel agent, I've seen the other side and learned what really helps (and what doesn't). This is based on real experience, with no fluff, just honest insight.

Myth 1: “It’s cheaper to book everything myself online.”

My Truth: I used to think this too… until I realised independent agents often get better rates than what I can find scrolling for hours. Travel agents have access to deals, upgrades, and packages you don’t see online.

Myth 2: “Agents add extra fees.”

My Truth: The agents you use never charge you any booking fees at all. They get paid by our travel suppliers, not by you, so you’re getting our help for free.

Myth 3: “I can find all the info I need online.”

My Truth:

The internet gives you too much information. A travel agent gives you the right information. We know which hotels are actually good, which excursions are worth it, and which reviews to ignore. That experience is priceless.

Myth 4: “Agents just want the sale.”

My Truth: Independent travel agents rely on word of mouth, so they genuinely care about your trip. We always check in, making sure everything is running smoothly, and go the extra mile because our reputation depends on it.

Myth 5: “Travel agents are outdated.”

My Truth: Not at all. Independent agents use modern systems, instant digital documents, it’s all really simple and up to date. You get technology and personal service.

Myth 6: “You only need an agent for big holidays.”

My Truth: Travel agents can book anything — weekend getaways, last-minute trips, cruises, luxury hotels, family holidays, sports holidays, excursions, attraction tickets, car hire, travel insurance, the lot. Big or small, a travel agent can help you sort through all your travel plans.

And Here’s My Honest Bottom Line!

Booking with an independent travel agent makes travels smoother, saves you time and reduces stress. Knowing you have got someone in your corner, who knows what they’re doing and actually cares about your trip going well, is priceless.
